Hi all. Since buying my 7D, I have shot over 500 pix using my 580EXII (mounted on camera). Something very unusual happened last week. I mounted the flash on the camera and turned both devices on as usual. Everything seemed fine. Both camera and flash were on their usual indoor settings ('P' on 7D and 'Auto' on 580EXII, both compensated at +1/3 for high ceilings). But when I released the shutter, the flash went off and 7D's mirror locked for half a second before falling back down, therefore washing out my pic. I turned both the camera and the flash off and back on. Same results on the next 5 test pics.

Finally, took the flash off the camera, removed and reinserted the batteries, reattached to the camera and turned it back on. Now all was back to normal as if nothing ever happened. I have taken another 50 shots so far without any issues.

What do you guys think? I have never heard of this. The reason I posted it here is because it seems like a flash issue since resetting it did the trick.

That's weird, never heard of that.

Do you like the results in auto better than in ETTL? I haven't tried auto yet, but i've only had the 580EX II for a year or so ;)

Sorry. I meant ETTL. I too, haven't tried any other setting, even in slave mode.
