To put closure to this thread.... his game story came out online today and .. WITHOUT any picture.

If that was in my backyard, I'd be ringing the photo editor every time I bumped into that writer and his P&S. Sounds like they're spread thin and need the contact info for a few stringers.

Anymore its often not about being spread "thin" as much as it is a cost issue... the new adage in the news world is "free and good enough is good enough"

I've stood besides many large paper "photographers"/report​ers covering big games with P&S's and cell phones.

This is honestly VERY common. For small time papers when push comes to shove almost every writer has a camera for emergency use. It's actually very understandable, to be honest.

And then they can't figure out why no one is buying their AP/Reuters reprint newspapers. I wonder when they'll figure out that they need to start offering quality local coverage to sell papers. People can't get good local news on the internet (in most places), yet newspapers are cutting back on their local coverage and running more and more regional/national wire stories that people have already seen on the internet.
