This past weekend, I had a chance to use my new 420EX flash (in E-TTL mode) at a party held in a backyard (outside and underneath a tent with a yellow canvas roof). My setup had the G6 (in auto mode) supported on a Bogen monopod with a Quantum Battery 1+ powerpack (and MF3 battery module) for the flash.

Well.... the pictures were sharp, did not have redeye, and the colors were great (especially when I tilted the flash head up to 45 degrees.

Thanks to those in the forum for convincing me to get this flash -- it worked superbly!

Unfortunately, I couldn't take lots of pictures. It was a hot day and the kids were using water pistols -- several in the direction of my moisture-sensitive camera equipment....perhaps they were trying to tell me something...
