Just a quick question.

I recently got married, and got all of the pictures from the Photographer. I own all of the digital rights to the photos. For all intents and purposes, they are MINE. The photographer processed 300 of the images, but I got all of the 1675 images on discs so I can do with them as I please.

As far as the forum is concerned, if I'm working on some PP on the images, is it against forum rules for me to post them here if I need help or opinions on the PP? Since I didn't actually take the pictures... but I do own the digital rights for the photos.

Also, kind of a side question, but since I own the digital rights to the photos, as specified on the contract with my photographer... He used one of the images from my wedding on his website. Is he allowed to do that without asking my permission?

Thanks in Advance.

You say digital rights. Did he/she give copyrights or usage rights? There's a difference. They may have granted you permission to use the images, but not granted full copyright.

If you were granted permission to use the images, then I wouldn't see an issue w/ you posting them here. If he granted full copyrights, then you can do with them what you wish.

If he still retains copyright, but granted you usage rights, then he can use them for his website.

good point... I'm not sure of the exact wording... I'll have to take a look at the contract again to get the exact wording.

Thanks for a quick response, and from the sound of it, in either case, it'd be fine for me to post the images here if I need a bit of help .

I'm not quite sure what angle you are asking this from so there are 2 answers! The first is if you are asking about permission to use the image of you.

What did the contract say? I have a release in mine that give me permission to do as I please with the photos. Are you sure he didn't have a similar release in his? If there is no written release then you can ask him to take the shot down if that is what you want.

The second answer and the one I think you mean is about the fact you own the rights to an image he has displayed. Again, it depends on the contract but I wouldn't imagine a photographer would let go of the full rights to the photos. He needs to keep his portfolio fresh and to do this would need to use shots from his recent weddings. If he signs away full rights he wouldn't be able to do this.
