Went over to Sebring last week to shoot vintage... it poured, drizzled and then poured again. Only a few vintage Porsches came out... none of the GTP or prototype racers ever it the track. The surprise though was these little Porsche Cayman cars that run a in a new division called Cayman Interseries. They run at select HSR events... the are a spec car costing about $80K ready to race and they must run one of the classic paint schemes from the old Porsche 917 days. VERY cool. Funny story about #4 - I went over there on Friday and kind of stumbled into the Cayman Interseries car. Next, Cosmo is telling me he's going to over there on Sunday and that I should have waited. I ask what he's doing their... "Oh, I'm driving with a friend in the Interseries... " Turns out he was driving this car... which he had never seen and they ended up winning. So, I got to do a nice article on the series, show some great pictures and have an interview with the race winner. Talk about serendipitous. LOL I love the paint schemes on these cars and Cosmo say's they're a blast to drive.

Thanks.

JT

Interesting that many of the images were made with a 40D, a model first sold in 2007. That makes a major statement about the need to have the latest and most expensive camera. Maybe the most important camera accessory is what's behind the viewfinder...

I'd like to think it's the Indian rather than the arrow. LOL - But, seriously, Canon's xxD series bodies have been pretty solid this the 10D. And really, since the 20D, not a whole lot has changed. Sure, more megapixels, faster burst rate, larger preview screen etc. But, I always weigh out the difference between benefits and features... benefits are those things that truly effect and improve your photos... features are the things that soothe your ego and/or maybe make your photo shooting life a little more comfortable... but you can get by without them.

Certainly we're at the stage of the digital evolution that a pro can easily skip a generation of upgrades. I don't see anything truly groundbreaking on the horizon.

I think the 7D is a major upgrade over the 40D, but I feel bad for those that jumped from the 40D to the 50D. Not that it's a bad camera but it wasn't much of an upgrade over the 40D.

And if you really want to talk about how important the equipment is, here's a shot taken at St. Petersburg Grand Prix in April with a 5 year-old, 5mp point n' shoot.

#4 very nice - shame he didn't take it a bit wider to give more reflection :-)

Gotta love that classic Martini paint scheme.

cheers, juice (Canon shooter, Elinchrom lighter, but pretty much agnostic on brands.)

Really like the first photo.

I know what you mean. I use a Canon A540 as my boat camera and the picture quality is just amazing.

I'll look for you at Sebring this spring.

Great stuff as usual JT, wow - some racing in December! Way to rub it in living in Florida.

It's cold, snowy and windy in Chicago...these pictures hit the spot.

I got a 50d to go with my 30d and 40d mainly because for the price, why not. The sealing and sensor cleaning functions of the 40 and 50 were a godsend to me. I think you would have the same results shooting a box with a hole in it John, nice shots as usual.

Great photos, as usual, John!

Too bad the classic Porsches (my favorites, being a Classic Car enthusiast) didn't hit the track.

I also think that the paint scheme really suits the Cayman on photo number 4.

Thanks for sharing.
