Hey guys,
I own the 500D (T1i) with the standard 18-55 kit lens. I am looking to buy a new lens. Either the EF 85mm f/1.8 OR the 50mm f/1.8 mk II.

I like to shoot in nightclubs and portraits and I'm hoping these lens may give my photos some more vibrance! So which lens would be the better choice for what I want to do?

Thanks very much, any help is much appreciated!

I-Gasm.

For a crop camera, shooting in night clubs where you don't have much space to move around, I'd suggest the 50mm :) Personally I think your kit 18-55 might be more useful.

For nightclubs I would suggest a 28mm 1.8 on a crop.

Is it the 18-55 IS? If not, get that any way.

Even 50 will be too long for nightclub work, but is a handy portrait length on APS-C.

Consider either getting a 430 EX and using it with the 18-55 IS, or getting something like the Sigma 30/1.4, or EF 28/1.8.

If you don't already have flash, would recommend flash before upgrading to any lens for nightclubs...if that's your main thing.
