d'oh. I know I saw this but I'm not sure how I missed it.

Fortunately, it is a quick one for me. Scroll back to the last page and read what I wrote to Milla. As another bludomain user, everything applies to you, too. There is little you can do with a site that doesn't have an HTML version.

Everyone!

If you haven't PMed me for a link, do it! I'm doing 3-way link exchanges with photographers in this thread and everyone benefits. I've done half a dozen so far and I'll get your link up right away.

From PM...

I am a wedding photographer in Houston TX so I want to be found by brides in the general area. Here are a few keywords:

houston wedding photographer
wedding photographer in Houston
_______________
www.jerryphotos.com (external link)

Hmm your site is hurting, Jerry. I see the site in around #170 for 'houston wedding photographer'.

You have a bigger problem, though. Bludomain has complete control of your domain. They own it, they control it, you have no say in what happens to it:

http://whois.domaintools.com/jerryphotos.com (external link)

You're not listed anywhere there as a contact. You should register a domain account somewhere like Namecheap.com and get your domain under your control ASAP. It is also going to expire in 7 days.

Anyway, I look at that to see how old your domain is. It is certainly old enough that it should be ranking. I think you're just suffering the Bludomain curse. Flash sites, without HTML versions, are never going to do that well. Do you have any plans or intention to move off of Bludomain? Or to one of their templates with an HTML version?

You know I already swapped links with you, but maybe I'm missing something. What are you talking about 3-way link exchange?

Just wanting to know from you SEO gurus real quick; is it better to have an on-site blog (a blog that is embedded into your main website) or is it better to have an off site one for rankings?

Originally I would've thought that by keeping a blog on the main website would increase the text and improve rankings. What do you guys think?

It is better to host your own. And within that, it is better to place the blog in a subdirectory of your main domain as opposed to a subdomain.

Here's an article (external link). And a search (external link) with more.

I recently configured Wordpress on my domain to take the place of an external blog I had on blogspot. All went smoothly, and I was surprised to see how much wordpress had grown up. They have some nice import filters that imported the entire blogspot blog. It was 90% intact and needed very little touching up.

A word of caution, tho. Luckily, I went thru the config of wordpress carefully and discovered that by default, wordpress is set to stop search engine spidering.

Edit: One important note. If anybody configs a wordpress blog, read the above article and take the link(s) which give info about necessary wordpress seo plugins. There is one that affords complete control over meta and other stuff. If I remember correctly, it's called headspace2.

I prefer to keep the entire keyphrase together. If your most important one is wedding, make sure "Boston wedding photographers" appears as a whole phrase more often than not.

Not to undermine your advice, but don't think "and" matters to google...

I've been following this thread, along with many others, and have found it very useful. I've made some changes to my website and hope it helps with my ranking. Will definitely have to look into the link exchanges, as that is one thing I have not done yet. If you have a chance, you can take a look at my site http://www.forevermomentsphoto.com (external link), keywords are:

portrait photography, portraits, photography, Lockhart, Texas, baby photos, infants, children, maternity, family, pets

I'm still confused as to what are good keywords and their order of importance.

Actually, yes. I didn't see the HTML mirror page at first but now that I've gone looking for it, I still don't see it in Google:

http://www.google.com …ography.com&aq=f&oq=&aqi= (external link)

Do you see any of your HTML site pages there? Here is the HTML site: http://www.armansphotography.com/?load=html (external link)

Unfortunately it looks like the main page uses Javascript to load it! Which makes it entirely worthless for Google unless you get another type of link to it so that Google knows it exists. Basically Google sees the Flash site but is never forwarded to the HTML version. So what Bludomain has sold you is a crock of sh*t. Perhaps it can be changed but it shouldn't have to be. Go to Bigfolio or Prophotoblog.

It wasn't the ampersand that bothered me but that the word "portrait" was inbetween wedding and photographer... negating that as a phrase.
