Coloured water and tinfoil

I've seen a few abstract shots recently and all I know is that it involved some water, food colouring and tinfoil. What I don't understand is whether it's poured onto the tinfoil and then you try to blend the different colours, or do you fill up some glasses with the coloured water and shine light through onto the tinfoil and photograph the reflection? If someone could help me out that'd be great.

Interesting idea. You'll likely get better response by posting a picture or two here and not just a link.
