So I decided to try another go at shooting smoke now that I have a new camera and off camera flash...for some reason it seemed harded this time around. You can click on my website in my sig if you want to compare with the first shoot, the first set is ABOUT the first half lol

I've gotta vote for #2. I love the color and I love the pattern, or maybe lack of pattern, I'm not sure. Is there a thread where you explain your technique?

I think there is actually quite a few but its pretty simple for the most part. All I did was set up a black backdrop and lit some incense. I had my flash directly on the left side shooting through the smoke. Post I usually Add alot more blacks but that may just be my tech since I probably dont get the exsposer just right. then just change the colors. Some people invert the colors as well but everytime I do it, it looks funny.

OK, cool, sounds straight forward. I tried to get some smoke shots the last time I was experimenting with my camera. I was outside at the time and it was just the slightest bit breezy so of course it didn't work. I didn't have any incense either, so now I know that the most obvious source of smoke is the way to go. Thanks for your help!

no prob, and you can also try experimenting moving the smoke with your hand or blowing it to get different shapes
