I'm thinking of ditching my decade old CRT for an LCD. Can a decent one be had for less than $300? I want to get something BIG so when I'm using light room the thumbnails are bigger so it's easier to navigate through a larger number of photos quicker.

Ideas?

Yes, plenty can be had for less than $300. (Where in the world did you get the idea you had to spend more than 300?!)

If you want to spent $300, maybe get two $150 monitors =) Way mopre realestate than a single $300 monitor.

How about two of these babies?
ASUS Monitor (external link) : As you can see, they are about $150 each.

Hah I guess it's been a while since I've priced them. So what makes one monitor better than another? Right now I'm using a Samsung SyncMaster 753df CRT if that helps.

Remember that cheaper monitors will almost certainly have TN panels which are not suited to photography because of their limited colour reproducing ability and awful viewing angles.

Well... If you're using a decade old CRT, it's probably smaller than the current 22", 23", and 24" LCDs and certainly not wide aspect. There is a huge thread in the computer section which talks ad infinitum about the 22" Dell 2209WA. If you're talking about less than $300 US dollars, it's still the best deal for the money at only $212 shipped.

Try to allow something in your budget for a monitor calibrator, if you don't have one already.

Well, if you want to avoid TN monitors then, as ChasP505 said, the Dell 2290WA is good, I would also look at the Viewsonic VP2365wb.
