I can't wait to get out and test these out. The ETTL will be worth it if these work like they are suppose to. I have been playing around with them in the house, and so far, so good. I have gotten them to sync up to 1/1000th.

I have been using PW plus II's and flash on manual, and I am excited about not having to meter/test/meter/test!

good luck for you with the flex.
my ones work so erratic, that they are unusable for anything important - just rubbish. Some friends made the same experience, only one is more or less content (but not happy).
Hope they work better for you.

With all due respect - posts like this without all the "What" facts are meaningless.

What camera
What flashes
What firmware
What settings

If you had issues they were correctable

several of us, partly radios exchanged by pw (did not help though), different camera models (most problems with 5dII), all canon flashes (range different, but erratic behaviour of all models), all settings possible tried out. five months of testing.
any more questions?

most have contacted pw. ask around, many people have problems. and they are not correctable, because the radios are not working as they should.

ok, in your eyes meaningless. and sorry in advance, if I will not reply on your meaningless follow-up

I'm really fed up with mine, one new problem after another. No effective range in working conditions, add in a flash on the Mini and the other won't fire, test fire and it works, put the models in place and it won't, the Flex stops firing and has to be retrieved, turned off and reset

It's a dose ~ these things take the worst of the Canon system and make it ten times worse. It's seemingly a lottery for me if they chose to work correctly for brief periods.

I work on the move as a PJ ~ IMO, totally useless for a volatile active or impromptu sessions ~they need to be set up EVERYTIME ~ I've taken them off and returned to the Canon IR as it is more reliable ~ sorry to say.

I'll still hang on to them and continue to try them as they improve the firmware or issue a recall, they are useful in sunlight where the Canon IR is at its weakest but the variances in exposure are enhanced, ETTL is a bit like that, too much under too much over but usually pretty close, with the Mini/Flex extreme under or over exposure is, for me, still toooooo common.

I've already had replacements from PW tech support and I've made my own shield as PW won't give me one but to no avail ~ maybe I am a poor shield maker? Maybe it's all my own fault.

When my cheap Chinese TTL [for Canon] arrive I'll have more to say ~ but that probably won't be until mid 1Q 2010 at the earliest.

and here's my meaningful follow up for those that want to make their PW systems work.

If you having issues with range with your troubled flashes - sell them and use 430exII - range issues solved.

For the early adapters with 5D Mark II's the PW software (firmware) was not avail when the camera was first introduced. But now the 5D Mark II is fully supported.

The same for the 7D - the PW software (firmware) was not avail when the camera was first introduced - and now it's supported in the new Beta firmware.

Being able to use OC TTL has changed the face of photography - either get on board or get left behind

don't worry, its not your fault.
had replacements too, other as well - and we all have in common, that they still don't work. this product belongs not on the market.

and if anyone comes along and recommends to sell all our canon-flashes because the pw don't work, it's becoming quite ridicioulous:rolleyes:

Is a 580EXII a troubled flash?

my experience is, that 580exII has much less range than other models like the 550ex. noise of canon-flashes can vary very much though. i.e. you can get a very noisy 580ex or a much less one, if you are lucky. But the pw do have problems besides the noise issue. within their "comfort-zone" all models work erratic with the flex. so it does not help the 550ex to have more range.

Why do mine work fine? Shrug.

they fire pretty much every time up to like 350 feet using 430EXIIs or Vivitar 285hvs.

I got rid of my 580 because of the range issues, but apparently that has been fixed now. there was nothing i could do with the 580 that can't be done with the 430s for what i shoot, so it wasn't really necessary.

Yours work - mine work - the other 100 attendees at the PW's meetup in NYC last week theirs worked, that's all that really matters. ;)
