My web designer setup the flash player and I need to name the new video at the same name to play. No biggies, but I currently use Sony Vegas Movie Studio and it does not output FLV files. That's why I'm here asking about it.
Will it be worthwhile to get Adobe Premiere Elements just to convert the files?

It's been about 3 years since I did any flash work, but I was really into it at one time, even a Mod at Flashkit. But man, unless you use this stuff every day, you forget it, especially the ActionScript. But there were many free converters, put out by MS and some of the other player companies. I'm sure if you search Google, you can find them.

Ask at Flashkit (external link) about free converters also.

I'm a novice at this so I may be talking nonsense...

But one of the advantages of converting with Adobe Encoder is the Player is built into the file (just one file too, no subfolder or files that need to acompany it)...It's my understanding that other converters cannot due this due to licensing.

No Swf's, No making sure your files are pointed to the player, Etc...It's all self contained.

But Injest with a grain of salt....It's all new to me, and I may be talking out my _._._.

I've tried a couple of free converters, SUPER and OJO. The output seem to be pixelate more than I like. I'm wondering if getting another program for the flv output makes sense. Adobe Premiere Elements is what I'm thinking now.

FLV will usually be pretty pixelated, especially at low bitrates using vp6 or h263. Best way is to try to see if your player supports h264+he-aac in flv container, that that should offer superior quality.

Thanks Basroil.
However, being a video noob, I only know H.264 codec and have no idea what he-aac is. Also, what do you mean by having them in a FLV container?
Will Adobe Premiere Elements do that for me? Or does it have to be one of those PRO programs?

Edit: Also, will image quality improve if I drop frame rate to 25 or 15?

HE-AAC is high efficiency AAC. It's a low bitrate, but good quality at that low bit-rate. iPods and stuff like that generally use LC-AAC instead.
FLV is a container, just like MP4, MOV, MKV, AVI, etc. It stores video and audio, but is not a video or audio file alone.
Frame rate depends on what you want to do. If you only need a slideshow, a low framerate is fine. But if you have significant movement in a shot (panning, fades, etc), then slow framerates will not be good.

PPE should be able to do it, but not certain, as I only have premiere pro to fiddle with.

Thanks a bunch. I'll research more about PPE output.

I decided to go with a video converter for the flv output and it's working fine. Thanks to all of your suggestions and advices.

One more tip for mac users :) — Macvide VideoFlash Converter. I use this app myself and it works perfectly, I should say. by the way, if you check out their site, there is also a flash to video converter — can be also useful.

The last three posts may be sincere attempts at help and I may be coming off like a real jerk here.

I'm always very suspicious of someone with less than 10 posts that it recommending a product. Reeks of spam. Nicb1977 joined over a year ago, so he may be legit. The other two seemingly joined POTN just to recommend those products.

Just sayin...

Never heard of any of those three, so chances are they are all spam products based off of handbrake, vlc, megui, or a combination thereof. Stick to those three for video conversion.

As for FLV (non-h264 containing), do understand that it is very aged and very poor quality. It is more or less a legacy video, and contrary to other posts here, it does NOT provide better quality than h264 at any bitrate. Redesigning the site to take advantage of h264 in mp4 files will give you a good five years or so future compatibility (until dirac and snow like wavelet compression videos start being better than DCT video compressions)

Lonnie

No, I'm not a spammer :)
I was searching for a tool for video editing, not exactly a converter (as I already have one), and actually I've found what I was looking for in another thread. I just noticed this discussion and decided to help, as if not the threadstarter than someone else might need this information in the future.
I'm sorry if this was violation of some forum rules — I'm not really used to this kind of communication, as I belong to the older generation.
