Jack Yates High School (Houston, Tx) is currently rated #4 in the nation by MaxPreps. They have been scoring 150 points per game. I covered their game with Seven Lakes High School from Katy, Tx. The game was moved from the Seven Lakes gym to the Merrell Center (external link) in Katy because of the anticipated crowd. And they came - reporters, photographers, fans and more fans. Nike was there giving out free t-shirts (which almost caused a riot!). The report was 2561 in attendance.

I sat at the corner of the court the whole game because if I got up, most likely I would have lost my spot. :-( The Merrell Center is a beautiful building and big. My Alien Bees were up on the second level clamped off to handrails. I couldn't bounce the light because of the dark ceiling so I aimed them out over the court and not directly down. I prefer to bounce the light but I didn't have a choice this time.

Oh, Yates won 88-76. It was a really good game and I missed a couple of shots because I got caught up watching instead of shooting! :-)

Here is the link to my game pics.

Mike, Sounds like a fun game to attend. Lots of interest in the game always makes it more fun. Probably had a bit of a football game feel for you in TX.

Baseketball here is like football there. I was recently reading some info on one of the main basketball sites here in Indiana and they listed 54 of the approx 350 HS gyms in the state have a capacity of 4,200 or greater.

Well, I got published!
MaxPreps used one of my pics from the Yates/Seven lakes game to go along with their story on Yates, the #4 ranked team.

I know this is a common occurrence for some of y'all but it is a first for me.

Awesome! Too bad they compressed the snot out of it and it looks terrible! It's a great shot and looks great in the gallery.
