I ramped down the quality a lot so they could fit, they are much sharper, maybe next time Ill make the pictures smaller...

You are shooting into the sun. That has a very negative effect on your shots.
1) it backlights most elements in the scene and provides rather poor lighting on the rest.
2) it causes glare and forward scatter from the rays hitting the lens directly, thus reducing the image quality in general (fogs the shadows and softens the contrast).
3) the very least you need to do when shooting into the sun is to use an effective lens hood to reduce the problems.

Posting smaller images will usually be the better approach in posting. However, in this case the image quality was already seriously compromised before we get to sizing and jpg compression problems.
