Interesting Frame Technique

I saw an image done like this on another forum, and I had just taken a load of images at a benefit blues show, so set about to duplicate the effect. I'm pretty pleased with it, but now I need to go learn about automating some nicer looking frames. Any comments are appreciated.

Cool. I wonder if you made the top part of the frame narrower at the top giving it a perspective as if the frame was falling back if that would make the guy pop out of it a little bit more. Looks great as it is, but I wonder if it would look more realistic where his head is outside and his belly is in the inside but from this perspective they both look as if they both should be on one side or the other...see what I mean?

This isn't a great example of what I mean, but the frame doesn't have to be straight up and down.

It looks great with that frame. I think it might be interesting to play with the colors on the frame a bit. If the black outer part was a bit lighter, like maybe the brown from his hat. Then you can have a drop shadow on the frame that matches the shadow from your flash. Maybe it won't end up working, but worth a try.

Combining that with Toddb's idea could be neat.
