Just shipped out the 24-105 and the 70-200 and recently took delivery of a 24L and a 100L Macro IS. I think I'm gonna try out the prime route for a little while and see how I like it...the 100L is a great lens from the few test shots I've taken thus far. It won't see too much macro use from me, but I'm gonna make it my portrait lens. The bokeh is great, even at just 2.8; no "pop" like you'd get with the 135L, but plenty enough to create some nice subject separation. And the 24L looks like it's gonna be plenty of fun, especially when you've got f/1.4 to play around with.

Next up, 50L and *my* trinity is complete. :)

Eventually, I know I'll need to pick up a 24-70L for vacations, etc. and something longer for more reach.

How did you all who also decided one day to move to strictly primes find your decision?

:D good choice ... welcome to the world of sharpness, no CA, perfect bokeh.

I never use my 70-300DO IS anymore.. aperture is of course much more important than any IS so I prefer to use a 300L2.8 for sport..
I almost never use my 50F1.4 .. sharpness wide open is so far from the 24L1.4II that I prefer to crop the 24L1.4 .. it's really pity :( .. I only use it with my 50D ..

I love my setup...I made the decision when I went we two bodies a couple of years ago!

This way I mostly cover everything that I need for landscapes and portrait!

i hope your search for a 50L w/o issues is successful! my question is, if your macro lens will not see any macro work, and you are only going to be using it for portraits, why not just buy 135L? IS? the 135L is really good w/o is.

the 24-50-100 is a great lineup. I opted for the 85L instead of the 100L however. but it's still a good lineup none the less.

Good question...basically, an opportunity to trade for the 100L was presented to me and I couldn't refuse it. Had I been in a situation in which I had to purchase a longer prime, I'm sure I would've ended up with the 135L.

With that said, the IS and macro ability of the 100L is quite intriguing and could be useful at times, IMHO.

My 85/1.8 begs to differ ;)

why not give the sigma 50 a shot, too? I really love the sigma 30, and after using the sig 50 from a friend, got one for myself (just did).

I got into primes from the get go. I wanted f/1.4, ambient light shooting. I have a mixed bag now because I do a little event side shooting, but I'm debating getting rid of my zooms (though, my 50-135 is beautiful, not sure if it's worth trading for the 135L yet).

also, 24-70L + "vacation" don't go together IMO, heh
