I had one shot at this Kestrel as he took off from a tree and as you can see I clipped his wing off. Oh well, it was great just to see this beautiful bird.

Oh man, so close to a good fit. But you're right, it is worth it just to see them. Well done anyway.

Clay,

Very Nice Image of a Beautiful Bird...

I see you have Image edit on. I went ahead and repaired the missing wing tips and added some canvas to 3 sides of the photograph, applied some blur to the background and some USM to select areas of the bird.

Still a great shot that I'd love t call mine. These birds are rarely seen here, I need to go inland and stake out some farm land.

Dan, very nicely done on the edit.

Great shot, not really hurt much by the wing tip missing. However, Dan's edit looks perfect to me. Both of you did well.

Dan,
Great work ! The only thing I did to the shot was crop some of the sky out under the bird. I only have Elements 6. Can I do what you did?

Mike,
I am happy you like it, Its a Great shot, I wish it were my own...

I am not familiar with elements 6 I used Cs4 But all I did was

1- Add Canvas to Top, Bottom, and Right " In front of Bird"
2- Use clone tool and copy the color on the 3 sides to the new canvas edge
3- Cloned the Right side " Good wing tip" and pasted on an area of the canvas close to the top.
4- used the transform tool and rotated it then inverted it to match the missing left side.
5- Used the clone tool again to replace the missing tip by aligning it to match the missing portion and look like the existing right side.
6- used the healing brush to blend the new canvas areas with the old and any areas that looked off on the redone blue sky.
7- used the smart blur tool to blend and blur the background to remove the noise.
8- used select sharpening on the bird and adjusted curves ever so slightly

This is a quick version of the edit, If your Elements has these functions you should be able to replicate it.

Thanks Dan.
I have been looking through Elements and can't find a "add canvas" option.
Thanks for your help!

Mike,

If you Google Image Elements 6 It should have some tutorials to follow.

Do you have an area on the toolbar that says Image?

If so Under Image- go to Resize, then to Canvas size...

Some ask a percentage others a measurement. Go larger then you want, does not really matter when done you can recrop or composition however you want...

btw. the grid that pops up is opposite what you think, If you make a mistake just back edit it and try again. It should be within the power of your program to do this.
