I have 5DMKI which I use mainly for landscapes, urban and people shots. I am pleased with the results, the IQ and particularly the relative lack of noise.
My question is - is the upgrade to MKII worth the outlay?
Would like to hear from anyone who has made the move.
It's stills performance I am interested in - the video feature doesn't interest me (I have Sony HD camcorder).

Unless you crop 50% of all your pics. :D then NO, it'll not blow the 5D away. It's a better camera with many new features and advantages but the 5D can really hold its own.

The 21mp of the MKII is a huge advantage IMO as well as higher ISO.

I "upgraded" for the better high ISO performance.

Unless you print very large or crop a lot, then just on IQ alone...no it's not worth it (everyone's definition of worth is specific to their usage and wallet).

There are other bells and whistles that you would have to assign a value to, such as micro adjust, better back LCD, etc.

Bohdan - I may be, and probably am, completely wrong.

I would say its a great upgrade but the 5d classic's IQ is still phenominal.

Looking at your gearlist you would greatly appreciate more glass before body upgrade. The 5d classic's IQ is really that good.

I will admit the noise or lack of it helps alot in the 5dmkII.

Interesting thread - I have a 5D and a 40D and I was thinking of selling both to get a 5D Mark II - so you don't think it would be worth it?

None of these cameras blow other cameras away.
With the 5DMKII you get:

Much better ISO noise hangling. (> 1 stop...)
21MP resolution for printing big or cropping.
Better looking files.
Nice hi-res LCD screen.
Video.
Better build.
Much better battery life.
Live View.
Dust removal.
Etc...

I sold my 50D to partially fun my 5dmkII. I would never sell two bodies to pay for 1.

For me the IQ of the 50D was not satisfying my pixel peeping behaviour. I sold a 6mth old 50D and kept my older 5D classic. The 5D classic's IQ was significantly better than my 50D.

I'd like to get a 1dsmkII or a 7D down the road for faster AF. Otherwise I'm pleased with my current gear.

I'm still getting used to my MK II but the dust/sensor cleaning and video are a plus. On the down side, you will find you need to upgrade hard drives, CFs etc to handle the space hungry larger files.

I never use the video at all, but the sensor cleaning/dust delete were major considerations for me with 5DII.

You can scale the 5DII back to one of the smaller RAW sizes, but it's always in the back of my mind that a shot will come up that I really want full resolution and will not have time to switch. Yep, the big files mean I'm buying 1TB drives in pairs now. I have gotten more ruthless with my editing, too.
