I got a new computer about 3 weeks ago and downloaded some images last night to it and Viewing the image on the new computer, the image looked great. After looking at it on one of my other computers, its extremely dark and I don't know why. I was hoping someone might be able to help me with a reason it might be dark.

The most obvious answer is that the monitors are set at different brightness. This would be the case if it is globally darker, every photo, in every viewing application.

More narrowly, a second answer is that the shots might be color managed, and on one computer the viewing application is managed and the other is not. (Or they are both managed but just set differently).

Is the brightness the issue with ALL the shots you look at, or are some shots exactly the same and others different? If that is the case, then I would look as something specific about the shots in question, is this shot color managed and the next shot not?

Unfortunately, your question is like going to a doctor and saying "I don't feel good. What causes that?" Too many answers really be sure without further input.

(PS, I would start with the monitor first, that is the easiest to fix!)

Judging picture quality/exposure/color on a uncalibrated monitor is always a crap shoot. Different video cards display differently and monitors can be set differently. There are a few sites where you can do some simple adjustments to get your monitor in the ballpark but a color calibrator is the best way to go and the only way you can insure that what your seeing on the monitor is what you have in your image.

Anyway, here are some simple monitor calibration sites to get you started:

Look at this grayscale step wedge...you should have your monitor adjusted so that you can differentiate as close to all of the steps.

Not all programs and devices for monitor adjustment are even capable of brightness and contrast adjustment, and assume a starting point at a certain setting of the monitor, before the program adjust color accuracy.
