I want to reorganize my page, and what Im trying to do I cant seem to figure out.

I have multiple galleries of Youth Cheerleading. I want to make a Main Gallery of "SWLYF Cheer" and move all my current galleries into that main one.

Is this possible after initial upload? And if so, how do I do it?

Smugmug owner, where are ya?

i think you want to create a category as SWLYF Cheer as a main category and then move the others as sub cat.

I think what you have to do is something like I have. Set up a main gallery, with sub galleries , then the individual galleries.
Example here

Click on the Sports Gallery

Does that sound about right?

I haven't dug to deep but it looks like you can create a new category. And create a sub category or more if needed.
Then go to your existing gallery and choose Tools->Many Photos->Move to another gallery

That will bring up your pictures with a couple of dialog boxes which allow you to move the photos to an existing gallery (which you can choose from the list of existing galleries) or create a new gallery.

I haven't dug too deep in the help files but this looks like a way to move the photos from one gallery to another.

Hope this is what you are looking for.
Mike

Thanks Michael!!! Thats what I needed.

Wait maybe not... Let me screen shot it.

Heres my new Gallery...

If I click on the "Move to Galleries" it ask me how many...Now this would move them, but it would in turn make one big massive gallery. With no organization. This I dont want. I need the "new" subfolder in my 2009.

So now that I look more it seems I have galleries already with sub folders in them. I guess I never paid attention when I was uploading them.

My gallery is called SPORTS, and my sub-galleries are SWLYF ____________ .

So I guess my question is can I change the gallery SPORTS to SWLYF 2009?

I just did a test and it worked for me.
I went to Tools->Control Panel ->Customize->Rename a category.

I have a complete softball tournament with sub categories (12U, 18U, Trophy Presentations) and many individual game galleries. I renamed the main category from GHYSA to Test Gallery. It worked and the sub categories and subsequent game galleries are still intact.

I hope I am not leading you down the wrong path. Check and double check or do a test gallery to make sure you are getting the result you are after.

If all else fails, send an email to the help desk. They usually respond fairly quickly. I know how you feel. I'm leary of making big changes.

Ok I can help. Here are a couple things to get you straightened out.

SmugMug is organized like this:
Category---->(Subcategory optional)---->Gallery----->Photos

ALL Photos belong in Galleries and ALL Galleries belong in Category or Subcategory.

Currently have "Sports" as a Category and then you have all the Galleries underneath that Category.

Would you like to create a Category as "SWYLF" and then put Galleries directly under it to take out the "Sports"?

Yes, the goal would be to have a Category named SWLYF Cheer 2009.

I must be screwing up pretty badly. When I go from my homepage to control panel>customize>rename a catagory
it already says at the bottom SWLYF Cheer 2009 even though its nowhere on the page. And I dont have the option to pick a catorory SPORTS or OTHER in the drop down. Only SWLYF Cheer 2009 is there.

What am doing wrong? HELP!

Have you tried asking the questions on the SM forums - www.dgrin.com (external link)? There are some very talented people there who know SM backwards.

Ok you were on the right track, but the only mistake you made was that you were trying to "rename" a Category instead of "Create" a category.

You can not rename a default category like Sports. You just have to create a new Category, which I did for you! SWLYF Cheer 2009

Next thing I did was went into the Gallery Settings of your galleries and I changed the Category on each from Sports to SWLYF Cheer 2009.

Did that make sense?

Let me know!

Just looked, makes perfect since. Now that I see it, I know how to do it.

Thank you very much for you help and generosity of doing it for me!

You will see a pro account upgrade from me in the near future!

Here was something I thought I may have noticed. When I created a Category, I go back to my homepage. Will it not show up until photos are added to it, or should it show up instantly?

I have a complete tournament set up and ready to go with four sub categories created for the different age brackets. But each sub category (8U, 10U, 12U, etc) is "Unlisted" and they are empty, nothing shows on the home page when you look at it in "Visitor View".

Actually, you should use the custom settings to make sure it is "unlisted" until you get it completely ready for the public to see.

For instance, lets just say you goofed when setting up your prices and then the gallery shows up for the public to see and the prices are the default price and not your custom ones which you forgot or overlooked. That could make for some uneasy moments until you figure out what the heck is going on. In the mean time eager customers are waiting to view the pics... OH MY, they are on sale! :-)

Good luck.
