I shot these in December 2008 and just completed them tonight. Nothing beats winter on the lake.

Saint Joseph, Michigan; Lake Michigan.

Amazing. Nice shots.

Absolutely love #1. Captures how brutally cold it can get. Bet no one got in the door at the bottom of the light house for a few days! :D

What a BEAUTIFUL set Michael! :)
One question though; How did you manage to take the mittens off long enough to get these? ;)

Great shots!!!

Do you usually see these formations only when it is brutally cold out? I guessing this was following a cold weather spurt as it looks like the baro is up (nice clear day).

I have an hour drive to a pier with lighthouse (Frankfurt, MI) and want to pick the "right" day. Any advice?

thanks.
Erik

You don't want sudden super low temps or the lake will freeze before the ice builds up on the lighthouses. Or, if it does get super cold, you want some major wind and wave action.

For three weeks in early 2007, the high and low temps never got above freezing. The result?

These are good, Michael, but you have convinced me to never visit MI in the winter.

Amazing series; i love them all. How did you get out on that icy walk without sliding into the lake?
