Just a quick test on my new Sigma lens 30mm. (just testing it at wide open f 1.4 )

Thanks Sir Robert. Softness at wide open is my concern on this lens.

Softness at full aperture is typical, and that is why the sweet spot is usually at 2 or more f-stops smaller aperture.

Take a look at the sample of 6 shots taken over a range of several f-stops:

It is easy to confuse softness due to other lens problems and softness due to depth of field. Sp, if you are really interested primarily in softness due to wide open lens, then you should shoot at a scene where everything is at the same distance.

I think the softness really worked for number 2. there is a point of focus, but it is all a little "dreamy" that way.
