I have a question for the folks who have an XTi, perhaps this is a firmware bug...

Take an example. Lens set to f/2.8, in aperture priority mode. Meter gives an exposure time of 1/25.

When I turn on my 580EX attached to the hotshoe in ETTL-2 mode, the exposure time changes to 1/50. This is expected; it's NEVEC kicking in.

Now when I change my 580EX to M or MULTI flash mode, the camera meter changes the exposure time to 1/200 of a second. If I turn on High Speed Sync, it wants to shoot at 1/4000 of a second.

Same thing happens in Shutter Priority mode. At 1/20, with the 580EX in ETTL mode, the meter wants f/3.2. When I change the flash to M or MULTI, the camera blinks "F/32" (the limit of my lens). It's almost as if the meter thinks there's going to be incredible amounts of light.

I tried this on a store copy of the T1i. When going from ETTL to M/MULTI on the 580EX, the behavior doesn't change, remaining steady at 1/50s.

Any ideas? Anyone else with an XTi and a Canon flash unit who can test?

Note, this could be caused by the ISO hack. This behavior is present whether the hack is loaded or not, however, so this could be one of the drawbacks of using the hack.

So I just tried your glitch, and indeed it happens to me too, hack or no hack.
Maybe it's not here you should be posting your findings.

You should go over to the CHDK forum, and address the problem in the XTi hack thread where I see people posting their problems.

Working out the AF assist in the firmware hack is possible.
I believe no one has found this out yet.

It's probably NOT a glitch, but in terms of what the camera thinks is happening probably.
