Olympus announced the Pen E-P2 earlier this month - the firm's second Micro Four Thirds digital camera. And Hollywood movie actor Kevin Spacey got his hands on an Olympus Pen camera as part of a new advertising deal. Watch him in the (silly) ads with effects copied from his (one of the) best movies "K-PAX".

Eh, he's an actor paid to do a commercial.

I do like K-PAX, and American Beauty (I RULE! haha) and others. I met Kevin in Vegas once while I was at a COMDEX show, he had just finished doing a spot on a local radio station. He's pretty cool. One of my favorite actors. The Usual Suspects, L.A. Confidential are also both really good.

4-page pullout in this weekends Vancouver Sun about the new Olympus E-P2- looks like a pretty cool camera.

They are advertising it as a DSLR and on their site it says `has SLR quality technology` but is it actually a Single Lens Reflex camera

I highly doubt that I am the only one who is getting sick and tired of that second-rate actor, Ashton, w/ his D5000 and other Nikon commercials. If he would have rolled across the stage and hit me at the runway shoot. He would have to push his nose to depress the shutter button. I'm also kind of getting sick of Canon's NFL commercials. I highly doubt there will be a T1i at the Super Bowl.

I'm sure there will probably be a T1i at the Super Bowl. It will be up in the stands and not down on the field though

just like how you're sick of luxury car companies that show their new models accelerating through thin winding mountain roads and drifting across a wet tarmac, or beer commercials that show people asking for their brand by name at high class new york rooftop nightclubs and parties? a D5000 or a T1i won't make you a better photographer any more than a buying an audi A6 will make your life like a jason statham movie.

you just can't discredit them too much for being unrealistic because what would advertising be if they were honest? if i watched a fifteen second tv clip about someone buying a 50D to photograph their cat, i probably wouldn't be inspired to look into the brand any further, even though that's probably a more realistic application that most cameras see. ;)

I thought he liked the Ashton Martin Vanquish.....at least he did in Italian job;). You're right though. And wearing Victoria Secret lingerie will make you a size 1 with huge, uh, uh, assets.

I think that these ads hit the mark as there have been posts popping up about them on all the photography boards, and that has to be the target market for the EP-2.

I have a Panasonic GF-1 (similar) and I think I represent the target market. I'm serious about photography and I own a dSLR (or two). I want something smaller for a lot of things but I'm not willing to put up with the speed and performance of a P&S.

As for his whole 'don't be a tourist', I think that's just to get us all talking.

I'm not saying their advertising is effective, I'm just saying I'm sick of seeing it.

Did you see him in Beyond the Sea? He played Bobby Darrin, the pop singer from the 50's and 60's. Outstanding. And he did all the singing, too--at a very high level (and certainly MUCH better than Joaquin Phoenix in Walk the Line).

None of that, however, makes him a credible spokesman for photography equipment.
