Just ordered 2 Sterlingtek's for back up off Amazon $30, half the price of one oem

And I swear by it! I get slightly more shots on it than my Canon one will (Canon 6-700, Goop 8-900) and for the price you can't go wrong

I've done a number of qualified searches but haven't found a clear answer: are there any LP-E8 aftermarket equivalents which DO report status back to the camera? I've seen a few anecdotal comments but no confirmations. The Sterlingtek batteries I have are very good on my 550D but battery level goes from 100 to 0 in mere minutes when they reach the end. I haven't tried another brand.

The Goop ones register just fine, no different from genuine canon ones

Where did you buy them? Amazon doesn't seem to have the Goop LP-E8.

I haven't read through this entire thread, but I used to have a Photive LP-E8 for my T2i and it worked like a dream. Reported the correct level at all times. Works in the OEM Canon charger. I highly recommend it.

In fact, I'd recommend Photive to everybody. I now have one LP-E6 as a backup for my 60D and it works just as well as the one for my T2i. I got mine off Amazon; not sure if they're sold anywhere else or not.

www.dx.com has them free delivery worldwide too! They have a selection of different brands for all cameras. HK based.

I just received my Goop LP-E8 for my 6D, I have read heaps of people have problems with aftermarket batteries not registering? Just charged mine and placed it into my 6D and it works perfectly, the camera registers it and shows the charge percentage. $20 USD, definately worth it: http://dx.com …rk-ii-eos-7d-black-137802

Nothing but praise for Sterlingtek from me too. Heard about them on here and have found them just as good as Canon's.

One thing to be aware of with third-party batteries is that the factory Canon charger will OFTEN claim they are "full" and stop charging them early. This, over time, leads to SEVERELY diminished capacity when there's nothing wrong with the battery -- it's just not being charged all the way and over time the accumulated deficit adds up!

I found my first couple SterlingTeks BP511's would do the same thing... show a full charge very quickly on the OEM Canon charger. I put up with it for a couple years and noticed the batteries wouldn't hold a charge as long as my OEM batteries and figured since they were cheap to begin with, I'd just order a couple more SterlingTeks. I got two fresh 511 equivelants and the SterlingTek charger bundle for like $30.00.

I put my older SterlingTeks on the new Sterlingtek charger and ... Whaala!... My old ones are back to full power again!

So, what I learned is that if I'm going to buy and use 3rd party batteries, I will need the 3rd party charger too. I just pre-ordered a 70D so will be needing some spare batteries in the LP-E6 size and will be getting a charger in the bundle!

SterlingTek has been good to me but Wasabi seems to get good review too and are a bit cheaper... ie 2 LP-E6's and a charger for $30 on amazon! Any feedback on Wasabi?

A warning to all EOS M/SL1/100D users: be wary of eBay seller bestbuybattery. I purchased an LP-E12 battery from that seller last week which claimed that it was brand new, authentic, and in original packaging from Canon. Upon receiving the item, there were several things that caught my attention and I purchased another from Amazon to compare along with my stock EOS M battery:

I've bought many aftermarket batteries for my DSLRs, never had an issue as long as you attend the battery during charge and don't do an "overnight" charge.

Substantial savings can be had when buying aftermarket I must add

Great price, fast ship, and they all work great in my 60D, and register just fine. I get seemingly correct stats, etc and battery life seems excellent. The only rub? They all have the SAME serial number so that I can effectively only register one of them, the other two just appear to the camera as the same battery with different charge levels.

I'm guessing the MFGR just cloned a "real" Canon battery.

Anyone have any opinions on the Watson LP-E6 battery replacement for the Canon LP-E6? Was thinking about getting one for the 5D MKIII as I spent a lot on it and would like some extra battery life. Any bed or good reps on them?
