Working professional here.

I have a little Powershot A640 I've done some pretty good work with. Compared to my 5d it's junk but with some minor PP it's not too bad. Little noisy for my taste, I'm spoiled by my 5d, but it's good for the bike.

I'm far from being a pro, though I occasionally help my wife with some paid shoots. Anyway, I've been surprised by some of the shots I've captured with my Fuji X100. I'm thinking it could even serve as a quick/handy second camera (35mm equiv) on some shoots. Anyway, I wonder how long the supremacy of DSLR's will last as mirrorless and other systems continue to improve.

Good detective work. Yes, actually, I've come across this "prosumer" term, which I'm confused about, so I did a forum search to see if anyone's provided a good definition anywhere.

I'm wondering if there are actually any criteria that would place a camera into a "prosumer" versus "pro" category. The best I can tell, it appears to have more to do with camera build than actual functioning. Is that correct?

Here are some links with opinions/descriptions for prosumer vs pro cameras.

"The term "prosumer" is a cross between professional and consumer. When a camera is dubbed a prosumer model, it usually refers to a point-and-shoot that has advanced features such as manual exposure control and RAW format image capture. Such cameras are usually targeted at enthusiasts.

Some shooters which fall into this class are the Canon PowerShot S90, PowerShot G11 and Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX3."

My first prosumer digital camera was a Kodak DC4800 in 2000. I paid about as much then for it as I did for my G11. I sold the DC4800 to a friend after probably using it for five years, and he is still using it today. It wasn't perfect, but at the time it was very good. It had lots of manual controls on it, but no RAW back then.
