This might be a bit off topic, but not sure where to post it. So if this isn't the proper forum, can a mod move it for me?

I was wondering if anyone has the HP Touchsmart PC. If so, are you able to use the touch screen for editing in Photoshop? It would be a tremendous help if so, just using a stylus.

I just ordered mine and have to wait for it to get here. Hopefully the caliberation is pretty good already and I won't have to fine tune it.

Thanks

I've wondered about this computer. I hate fingerprints on my screen!

Give us a report after you use yours for awhile. I am like irishman in that I can't stand fingerprints on my screen. I was in Best Buy recently and the Touchsmart PCs were attracting a lot of attention. I don't know if they were selling any but a lot of people were looking at them.

From what I can gather, the desktop TouchSmart uses sensors around the screen edges to detect where an object is touching the screen. The screen can't tell the difference between your finger and a stylus so presumably they would be interchangeable. I'm not sure of the accuracy of the panel so it might be frustrating to use for detail work. As long as Photoshop can sense the object you use as a stylus it should work just like using a mouse.

I have a TouchSmart notebook and I almost never use the stylus. The panel itself is touch sensitive and works like a regular graphics tablet with a special stylus or a fingertip. Photoshop doesn't recognize the pressure sensitivity of the stylus because the screen doesn't use the Wacom API. It may be addressed in CS5, or maybe not. Adobe hasn't been very forward about supporting it beyond how it works now, which is like a mouse.

Unless you could add in the pressure sensitivity of a tablet and stylus system (Wacom, Intuos etc), i cant really see it being of that much use.

The pressure sensitivity is what makes using a tablet such an easy and rewarding experience imho.

I too, hate fingerprints. Which is why I was trying to use a stylus on it.

It isn't a make or break deal for me though. I am getting it mainly to eliminate some of the unsightly cables that a normal box/monitor will have.

Would have been a nice feature though if one could use a stylus on the screen and such.
