Has anybody used Elinchrom softboxes in freezing temperatures?
Im planning on shooting below zero degrees (celcius) and my main concern is the tension that metal rods will put on reflective material. I just dont want to puncture my SB.
Any idea on this as I did not find anything using google

The material is probably nylon, correct?

Many jackets and other clothing is also made with nylon...and they don't fall apart as soon as the temp gets below 0 degrees. I think you will be OK. It was -47C (-59 wind chill) around here, a couple days ago. That might be something to worry about :)

Of course, if it gets a lot colder, then you might want to be more concerned. The fabric could get brittle but I think that as long as you don't put any extra pressure on the fabric, it should be OK.

We've used our octaboxes outside 39 and 69 with no issues. Probably in 10-20 degrees F.

I will try and see how it goes

Might want to:

1. Test by leaving softbox in cold for x hrs and see how brittle, if at all, the fabric/foil on the Rotaluxs gets. See if your comfortable with how stiff/brittle, if at all, the fabric/foil gets after a cold-soak.

2. If concerned, I'd avoid opening or closing the box(s) if at all possible while cold. If you open it inside, use it and then let warm back up before closing, you'll be fine - if you're at all concerned.
