I think the image lacks focus. By that I mean that there is no clear subject in the photograph. My eye just wanders around searching. Most of us have done this when starting out in Street Photography - often due to being nervous. We see a street with some interesting people and we photograph the street without properly composing the image to identify/capture what it is that we thought was interesting. Dan Marchant

My eye just wanders around searching. Most of us have done this when starting out in Street Photography - often due to being nervous. We see a street with some interesting people and we photograph the street without properly composing the image to identify/capture what it is that we thought was interesting. Your image has two possible subjects of interest. The two guys sitting drinking and the group of guys in the middle distance talking. The problem is that the image doesn't capture either of the two subjects well. The two men are "squeezed" into the bottom right and the camera is too high relative to them (and the front one has his head down) so that it is very difficult to see any interesting detail. As for the second group, they are too far into the background to be seen clearly which devalues them as a subject. Lastly, by capturing the two groups you have also captured the large empty pavement between them which is visually uninteresting and reduces the interest/impact of the image. Next time you take a shot like this crouch down. That will allow you to see a little more of the guys front right and the lower angle will also foreshorten the middle distance - in effect editing out some of the boring pavement and making the guys in the middle distance appear a little closer. Also, by getting lower you will emphasis the lines in the pavement that lead into the image. They will angle inwards more forming leading lines which guide the viewers eyes towards the talking group. Thank you for the critique and pointers. I will continue to practice Eric
