Afraid I agree with the other commenters. I love black blacks but when you go that route you really need some separation between the elements of an image otherwise it just becomes a large black mass with everything blended together.

Thanks guys. My wife said the same before I posted it. I'm time crunched so I'm editing in Google photos!

I've opened up the shadows a bit, still keeping it high contrast.

Any though on the composition or subject?

Hard to comment on the composition of the first pic as, well, I don't know what I'm looking at bottom right :)

Second pic looks OK, that for sale sign rather dominates for me though, which is daft when you've got the tallest building in the UK in the background.....

This one is much better as far as exposure in concerned! The subject or composition I don't find particularly interesting. I think I would actually crop it just above the To Let sign, as the top part of the pic is too light imho and not very interesting to look at.

Lets try this because I am usually very reluctant to advise cropping. They way I would see and this crop something may be much different than the way someone else would or should. I believe that the way one composes, along with other aspects like processing, becomes part of a personal way of seeing.

What was it in this scene that made you want to capture it? Then after viewing and processing the image, did you capture what you were trying to show that attracted you to push the shutter? If not think about why you think that it fell short if it indeed did?

Any though on the composition or subject?

I'm not sure what the subject is. Is it the shard, the man with the walker or just the street scene itself?

If the shard then you should tilt the camera up to remove some of the street chaos and to get the tip of the shard in.

If it is the man you should take the photo in such a way that he is clearly visible. That doesn't mean brighter exposure - a low key shot is fine provided you compose so that the man's shape is clearly visible.

If the street scene you should shoot when there isn't a large truck obscuring half the street.
