Benched: this chap lives on this seat by a bus stop in downtown Auckland. In1965 there were exactly 28 vagrants in NZ and the police and social services knew them all by name. Now there are thousands of people in poverty, a situation exacerbated by COVID and the massive shift of wealth to a smaller and smaller elite. That said, this fellow is always cheerful and is well fed and cared for by commuters and by social services. He was offered a home but likes it where he is... I didn't show his face out of respect.

Our society has changed from the 1960s two-level model of government and citizens to the medieval three-level model of government, rich families, and commoners.

Our society has changed . . . to the medieval three-level model of government, rich families, and commoners.

New Zealand. Canada. So the shrinking middle isn't only a U.S. phenomenon?

Adding a B&W version of one of mine to justify saying something in a photo (not a discussion) thread.

In reply to you and OhLook here's one from my files. I don't know how to show it as a reply both of you, like you OhLook did. Oh - and please pardon the color.

The MQ button, next to REPLY, is Multiquote. Press it on each post you want to include in your reply. When you have all those posts MQed, use POST TO THREAD. (If you use REPLY, you get an unwanted duplicate copy.)
