Hey John,

There is a button on the top left of your camera that says MF. If the arrow on the LCD is not pointing there you cannot change it and in order to change your Focus manualy click the wheel that you have close to the shooting button until you see a part on the LCD that is zoomed...I think you can take it from here.

I also suggest you read your manual...it helps a lot.

There's a button marked "MF". Push it and then focus with the wheel. A square will appear in the center of the LCD and a distance scale will be on the right side of the frame. I find it difficult to use. The distance scale is VERY approximate.

I don't think the focus method determines DOF though. That is more a function of the length of the lens and the aperture setting.

Jim

Jon,
One of the forum members (Flowe) has an excellent web page discussing how to achive DOF:

A great add on is to manually focus in the way that has been described, and then press the asterix button on the back of the camera, (set) this will automatically focus to the closest item in the focus range you have manually selected.

Gets you the best focus when it works. ;)

I always forget that feature, Nabil-A--thanks for the reminder! I must try it this weekend, and see if I can make a habit of it.

RAW,
Thanks, but thank Flowe! Also, definitely check out the rest of his site--great G info.

Does this mean that if i were to set my G6 to manual focus and then set the focus below "1" would i get a front to back dof in my landscape shots? If so i can't wait to give it a go...??

I thought i'd learnt a great of my G6 but appears not to be after reading what a lot of you have been saying on this section, what i'm going to do is try different settings in the manual focus option and take notes of the settings and see what i get when i upload them to my pc...?

By the way i have redone my website via dreamweaver, please take a look, it's very basic and to the point but any criticism and better ideas would'nt go a miss.....thanks.
