My experiences with eBay/Paypal (which are of course the same company).

I watched $180k worth of property stolen from me being sold on eBay, and was unable to get them to stop any of the auctions. The reason was quite simply that the goods were stolen in one country and sold in another, and the international aspect made it impossible to get a police report in time for eBay to recognise it.

I bought a computer in Italy (an expensive Mac) and paid for it with my UK Paypal account. Paypal debited BOTH that UK account AND my US Paypal account, and ignored my requests that they sort it out. I was put in unauthorised overdraft with my US bank and they levied monstrous charges that Paypal refused to cover. It took over 8 months before I got my money back.

I bought a camera in the UK, using my UK Paypal account. Because I was in a different country AND by extreme coincidence I (the buyer), the seller and the person in the UK I wanted the camera sent to all had the same surname (though totally unrelated), eBay AFTER debiting my bank account decided this all looked rather odd and froze the transaction. I paid for the camera by another means, but eBay refused to refund the money they had taken from me. Finally, well over 6 months later they told me I could now reclaim my money if I wanted to. They didn't offer to replace it where they'd taken it from as I had several times requested. And they have told me my account is suspended indefinitely, though they refuse to give any reason.

IMO eBay and Paypal are either unbelievably inefficient or they are crooks. I am strongly inclined towards the latter view. I will never again have anything to do with either face of this organisation.

I might add that the seller of the camera in England told me she had experienced similar problems as a seller, and she was terminating her relationship with them.
