Allan - Some are at 2500 ISO, but I did ramp up to 3200 so as to get 1/500 shutter and f3.2 (70-200 is a bit sharper there).

Wally - THere are various EXIF programs you can download. I have a plug in for Firefox that allows a simple right click on the image and then select "View EXIF data" from the menu. It is simply called "EXIF Viewer" THere may be similar plug in for Explorer but there are also stand alone programs as well.

I really like how sharp/bright the colours are.
Also, the players reflection off the ice on #7 is a great detail.

Kodiak..actually my son played his best game of the year stopping 49 of 50 shots to earn his team a 1-1 tie against the top team in our league and the 5th rated team in province. Unfortunately most of the saves were obscured by other players. I was shooting out of penalty box. Below is the best I could get...he just got his glove or pad on it and sent it just wide of the post.

Put your cursor over the photo and right click. Look for the view exif option

Great pics! What lens are you using? I've been shooting some games for my buddy that coaches a AA Bantam team but I have an XTi which only gives me 1600 ISO and I was shooting a 75-300 3.5-5.6 so they were real dark. I just bought an EF 100 f/2 that I can't wait to use. I'm hoping the extra stops will give the light I need.

Tony:

The 100 will be nice but you may find it a bit "short" depending on where you are shooting from. At f2.0 focus is also critical as your DOF will be small.

I use a 70-200 f2.8L and a 135 f2.0L as my main hockey lenses. These are usually on my 50 D and 40 D which allow me to use 2000, 2500 (50D) or 3200 ISO if needed. All shots above were with the 70-200f2.8 on the 50D. All EXIF dta is embedded in images if you have an EXIF viewer available.

Also if your images are dark or if you are in dark rinks, shoot what you can in RAW and then boost exposure in post processing as needed. Shooting RAW in such cases will give you better results when adjusting (in my experience) than if you try to adjust lighting on a JPEG out of camera.

The 70-200 is my dream lens and I'm actually going to pull the trigger on a 50D sometime in the spring. I was able to clean some of them up enough to post in my gallery and I have actually started to shoot everything in RAW so maybe the combination of the additional stops and shooting in RAW will help until I can get my hands on the 50D and the 70-200.

Nice job Cstewart. Did you get to sit on the bench? Or were you shooting thru plexi?

Drisley:

I get access to the penalty box (at my own risk the refs always say) and at our rinks there is no glass on them so it is open which is great. League rules prohibit anyone who is NOT rostered with the team from being on the bench so because I am not a team official I can not go on the bench...no room there anyway and it would be too distracting for players even if I could go on bench.
