I am considering getting a Canon E-1 handstrap. I currently have my neckstrap attached to the camera, but I feel like when I put it down, there is ..well just a lot of extra strap laying around  for someone to come along and snag it on something.

Does anyone have any feedback of the pro/cons of the hand strap? vs the neck strap.

The hand strap is fine but sooner or later you have to put it down. The hand strap is more for handling.

I have the neck strap and have ordered the hand strap. I have yet to use it, but i have heard great things about it. I find the neck strap get caught in front of my lens or eyepiece sometimes, and that sure does get frustrating. I will also be using it with the Cotton Carrier, and there is a whole thread on this forum about it if you are looking for a new way to carry your camera. Then you dont have to really put it down.

I have the handstrap and love it. I leave it on all the time and use the neck strap sometimes.

I have the E-1 and like it. But it's no substitute for a neck strap. I end up using the E-1 and the Op/Tech style neckstrap from the POTN store (http://www.procameragear.com …/cPath/30/products_id/141 (external link)) with the detachable piece that allows you to use it as a smaller hand strap.

I guess for $25 it's that much money invested (compared to what everything else costs) to try it out.

I have hand straps on my cameras, but also use a R-strap along with it much of the time. Works great!

I have a Pacsafe 100 on my camera and a Markins handstrap at all times. The PacSafe I can disconnect in the house and I use the Markins handstrap only at those times. Even outside, it's more secure to have the weight of the body and lens partially supported by the handstrap, even when the PacSafe is around my chest.

I often am at events where the camera is out for hours on end. I can't imagine holding my camera for 4-5 hrs with a 70-200 or any other lens for that matter with a hand strap. Also would get in the way for portrait orientation. It's just not for me.

Bohdan - I may be, and probably am, completely wrong.

To be honest when I shoot car shows, I remove the shoulder part and just use the short strap wrapped around my wrist .. stops me dropping the camera for sure.

I have an R-strap and my Camdapter handstrap just arrived today. I'll be testing it out to see how I like it, but I don't use the R-strap often anymore.

my rule is.....when i pick up the camera the strap goes around my neck. i even use the neckstrap when i'm using a tripod unless i'm doing long exposures, am in the picture or i am in a safe place without other people around.

Hand strap only, or hand strap + cotton carrier / r-strap. Wit a 1D2N and a 70-200 2.8L IS I can't hold it nicely without a hand strap to support it.

So I just rented a 70-200 2.8 IS and I gotta say.. handstrap really makes it much more comfortable to hold.

Camdapter handstrap + R-Strap.
