Xti users do you trust your auto focus?

Hey guys, I have been using an xti with various lenses for several years now. Regardless of what lens I am using, I feel that I can't trust the auto focus on my xti and that I get better results just manual focusing despite the small, dark view finder.

I was wondering what other photographers experiences are with the auto focusing on an xti. Is it just me or my camera or is this body known for poor auto focusing results?

I use my XTi, and although it doesn't always nail focus, IMO it does a pretty decent job.

And I just wanted to say, I never thought the XTi would see such nice lenses. ;)

Regardless of lens, my XTi will hunt for focus if there's not enough light or contrast in the scene. I take mostly low-light shots, anyway. When this occurs, I use a flashlight to illuminate for proper focus, then switch to MF, turn off the light, then take the shot. The rest of the time, I'm using MF lenses anyways.

Thanks for all the responses. I may just have to keep my expectations more reasonable. Don't get me wrong, I do LOVE my camera.

At good light AF is fine and nails moving targets with good precision, starts hunting with even lesser light..and gets worse at low-light...I switch to MF during those times. Looking to upgrade soon, now that I have some good glasses.

I learned and started loving photography with my xTi, became a passion with good glasses. Love my xTi, the camera just doesn't fail to stun me at times with the quality though with all the recent goodies missing.

Mine too.. i think that´s one of the main disadvantages of this body.

As this was my first slr, I also learned photo basics and beyond on this body. Lots of great photos made with this body over the last several years.

I trust auto focus of my XTi/400D. Now a days, I mostly use EF 70-300mm IS USM and EF-S 10-22 mm. Those are my favorite lenses than the kit lens.

When one of my friends took photos with my camera, he couldnt get photos focused properly. It was because he was not able to hold the camera tight while taking photos.

Another friend of mine also bought 500D recently, he also had such problem. Some of his photos are blurred. I think they need more practice.

The focus system on the XTi/400D is pretty good - it's exactly the same as on the 30D, which was never really criticised for focusing problems. Yes, my 40D is a little better in low light, and a little quicker to achieve focus with fast moving subjects, but I have no qualms about still using the 400D.
