Low key portraits - Roma

Hello,

for the first time ever I tried shooting someone with artificial lighting. Used one light, no reflectors. Had to use slow shutter speed even at ISO 800 so pictures came out a bit soft. I need a faster lens or more light
The girl and I are friends so there were no stress at all. We had fun doing it. Anyway, tell me what you think about these. С&C appreciated as always.

i think you need some kind of light source from the left side. whether it be a reflector or light. just something to give a little bot of light to that side of her face and especially her hair which tends to get lost on the background.

#2 doesn't work for me at all though. it might except for that extra arm that is randomly in the picture.

I'm a long ways from a pro but I like 1 and 3. I really like low key lighting and spend a lot of time looking at low key photos and it surprises me when people say it needs a little light here of there with low key because the hair gets lost in the background. I see that in a lot of very high end photos so I wouldn't worry about comments like that to much. Some just look like a floating head and are still awsome. In the second photo I do think that it could use some hair light only because the hair is not lost in the background and makes it to confusing or maybe less light on that side of the face. I'm not sure both may work you would have to try and see. I just feel the lighting ratio is off on that one. My eye is drawn to the hair that has no detail to try to make out something instead of the beutiful face it should be focused on.

I really like #1 & 3. I think #2 needs some fill with the way her head is square to the camera.

Some good points there people. Thanks! Keep them coming. You always seem to notice things I don't even think of. Hope that comes with practice.

I used one light because I don't have anything else but I guess I'll have to get myself at least a reflector for that little bit of fill.
