I loved hiking in Hawaii. You'd just be wandering around, turn the corner and run into a waterfall.

it's funny...until I saw the photo again, I forgot the sign was there.

While I liked the Big Island...so much of it was barren/lava rock (with pockets of oases)...it wasn't (except for the snorkeling) the tropical paradise I expected.

Howdy all!

After my shutter button finger is exhausted, my second priority on vacation is FOOD. It always amazes me how good a $15 lunch is (that's how much the meal below cost us in Franschhoek SA), compared to a fancy restaurant where you spend $120. Yum!

Sounds (not too surprisingly) like the Galapagos. Parts there are almost like Mars - bleak, rusty and windswept volcanics and very few, hardy plants.

that's exactly how we described the big island...in fact when I saw your lava cactus, I wondered if it was similar.

one of my favorite places to go for a weekend. I loved it there until they got the casio and now it takes 1/2 hr to 45 min. just to drive from one end of the town to the other.

For those of you unfamiliar with Lincoln City, it's NOT a big down...but it's two lanes through most of it. It's become hugely popular because of the casino...just pulling out into cross traffic has become a "this may be the end of your life" moment.

When did they get the Casino? Even when we were there in 2006 traffic was terrible.

Then we were probably in the, "Fight for your life" area of town. I got some good clothes from the outlet shops there though. Still got em! :)

Does Camping count as a vacation?
Also from 2006. Potlatch on the Hood Canal

From my spring 2008 vacation. I loved Old town Sacramento. You railroad aficionados would too. It's built all around the RR with a beautiful museum there.
