And that 7-generation-old and therefore incapable of functioning D60?

Of course...

Even though I have acquired a second 40D and placed my 20D into semi-retirement, Heather wants to continue using the D60. That's probably a good idea, because the 20D has something like 40K+ actuations and the D60 is still under 10K.

Shelter Cove is on the Lost Coast of California, about halfway between Fort Bragg and Eureka. The coast highway turns inland past this area because of the great difficulty of building a road on the cliffs.

For the serious hiker there's a 24 mile trail from Shelter Cove to Cape Mendocino at low tide. But you don't want to dawdle or you'll get trapped when the tide comes in.

From the BLM web site:

The wilderness beach (Lost Coast Trail) is one of the most attractive features of the conservation area, with the abandoned Coast Guard lighthouse at Punta Gorda, relics of early shipwrecks, and a variety of marine wildlife to be observed. The distance from the Mattole Campground to Black Sands Beach is 24 miles. Driving time by road between the two points is 2 hours. Several parcels of private property are located along the coastline; please respect landowners' private property rights. A cautionary note: a few points along the beach may be impassable during high tides. Tide tables should be consulted when planning any hike along the beach. On hiking trips it is easier to travel with the prevailing winds, north to south. Visitors on foot should watch for rattlesnakes in driftwood and rocky areas.

and more from the BLM:

A spectacular meeting of land and sea is certainly the dominant feature of King Range National Conservation Area (NCA). Mountains seem to thrust straight out of the surf; a precipitous rise rarely surpassed on the continental U.S. coastline. King Peak, the highest point at 4,088 feet, is only three miles from the ocean.

The King Range NCA covers 68,000 acres and extends along 35 miles of coastline between the mouth of the Mattole River and Sinkyone Wilderness State Park. Here the landscape was too rugged for highway building, forcing State Highway 1 and U.S. 101 inland. The remote region is known as California's Lost Coast, and is only accessed by a few back roads.

Cat Health News!

Vet got the pathology report back and every indication points to a form of Inflamatory Bowel Disease that should be treatable with steroids and diet tweaking! All else is clean...

Needless to say, we're very relieved!! :D

Shelter Cove is quite the out-of-the-way place, isn't it? I took a look at the map and that's a cool looking road going in. Looks very MC friendly...

I'd love to get back up in that part of the state again. If my wife was a bit more competent rider, I'd seriously think about packing up the bikes and heading out...

Good news, Jay!

I wonder if one of our Siamese isn't afflicted with something similar. He's always had a bit of a touchy tummy and has been very slender most of his life, never weighing more than about eight pounds. He's always seemed energetic and active and seems to have a good appetite...

According to our Vet, it is a condition that can be life-long with random spikes and can also have acute, rapid-onset phases which is what we think our guy is going through.

I thought the 4 states were animal, vegetable or mineral. ;)
