We got even more rain tonight! I drove by a local Par 3 golf course on my way home from dinner. There were ducks swimming ON the COURSE!!! Not in a pond on the course, ON the course!

I know, it's crazy!

Wow! We got a bit of rain here but nothing like that...

Congrats Lisa/Dan/Tiff on the new arrival!

That happens in Chicago quite often, usually after any rain of 1/2 or so. Chicago is so flat that the water just has no where to go. I've had ducks in my front yard before. :)

30 minutes of rain here evaporates before it hits the ground!

I'm sure it has a lot to do with all the previous rain too. This course has a creek that runs through it and seems to "flood" after heavy rains.

LOL, rain is water that falls from the sky and ruins NASCAR races!

Thanks!

That was always our mantra: Need Rain? Invite NASCAR...!

We even had rain at like the last five Phoenix races (Spring and Fall!)

And after that 30 min is up.... it is so humid and sticky you can't move!!!

There's some places like that in Concord too!

Oh yeah... last year's Coca-cola 600 comes to mind.... I think I saw more laps of track drying trucks than I did of actual racing... I had a pair of shoes that never left the tent.... they were WET!!!!   However this year was awesome... though it did get WAY hot infield!!!!

I live on the side of a mountain.... my rain water all runs down hill.... Though occasionally if I don't keep my drainage passages through the yard clear I will have a small waterfall coming over my brick wall in the back.... But nothing like that^^^^^^^^^^

Time for battery backup on those sump pumps!

It was very very hot Sunday!!!!!! And a swimming pool would've been nice! Ok we had a swimming pool but we just stood in it... because who wants to swim in it when 'track' feet have been standing in it... Ewwwwwwww! :p

I had to add drainage pipes on our old house as part of our selling requirements. Our backyard would flood similar to the picture above. When we moved into this house it was one of the first things I did. All the downspouts tie into 4" corrugated pipe that goes into a ditch in our backyard. So far it has worked PERFECTLY! Knock on wood!!!

Wow! I'm so not a flat lander! My 'drainage system' is a rough 'ditch' that angles down my back yard (which is at about a 15% slope.... in places closer to 20-25%) to the corner of the house... where a small indentation in the yard that is lined with narrow concrete pavers leads it to the next slope at the front of the house. The grass covers that up so you don't usually see the pavers... the only flat space on my property (3/4 of an acre) is the actual space that my house sits on!!!!

Mine slopes from the front of the house to the back. It is a fairly gentle slope. Our last house had a steeper slope from back to front.

First house, here you can see a moderate slop until the last bit, then it gets more severe. Our driveway was pretty steep!

And the new house before we moved in. The largest slope is on the right side. It drops about 4 feet over about 12 feet so it is pretty steep.

And the ditch runs at the back of the property behind the silt fence.

When it comes like that, those battery ones don't do much. I have a generator, but of course, I need to know that the power is out. I have since installed flood alarms.
