Well, towards the end of January and beginning of February I am headed down to Costa Rica for 8 days. I will be staying with my Aunt and traveling all over the country with her and a few of her friends... anyway, I plan on bringing most of the stuff in my bag now, but I was also interested in picking up a smaller (high quality) point and shoot to bring down to take into the places I don't want to bring the 7d...

I am not necessarily looking for a Canon, but I imagine that's what I'll get since I am the most familiar with Canons... Anyway, I am hoping to stay in the sub $400 range and have something that is small enough to fit into most pockets, while still deliver photos worth printing.

Any suggestions

Canon SD1200 IS. fast f/2.8 lens, slim and light weight. 10MP (better than 12MP in the dinky P&S sensor for noise reasons)

I also have a SD1200IS. It is relatively inexpensive and shoot good photos. It's only downside is lack of functions, but yo have a 7D for that =)

I was playing with the G11 in the store the other day, what a nice little camera. I briefly had thoughts of selling my Rebel and buying one.. lol

They had an S90 there as well which looked really nice, I have thought about the S-series before but the G10 or G11 is only a little bigger with more controls.

That said after looking at the Dpreview review (which was good) I would also look at the Panasonic LX3 which alot of people talk about. I have a Canon SD700IS which is a nice little cam but next time I think I'll get something a bit more advanced and with a flash hot shoe- that would make a huge difference for me.

Thanks for the suggestion... I am not too concerned about the hotshoe flash, that's what my "real" camera is for ;)

I love the SX110, it has a jog wheel, 9 MP, and a full set of manual controls, including different metering modes, white balance, and Av/Tv/M modes. It fits in my pants pocket.

Go for the S90 - if you are a serious DSLR user, you won;t be happy with anything but the G11 or the S90. The S90 is very small and easily fits into any pocket - the G11, while offering more functions is bulkier. Shoot RAW with the S90 and you are guaranteed to get useful images. I love mine.

G9 is very good if that loan works out. If not, I would look at a Fuji F70EXR. Wide zoom range and a pretty advanced camera in many ways.

He did say under $400...S90 is, at best, $400 with rebate. One vendor under that price, but I would not trust the place...likely to be one of those places that charges extra for the battery, strap, memory (all of which should be included), and they hang up on you if you want none of those 'extras'.
