Upcoming trip... Point and Shoot Suggestion

I have a G9 and love it. I'd suggest downloading the owners manual from the Canon site. If your friend will lend his G9 to you in advance for a few days, I'd suggest spending some quality time with both the camera and the owners manual to see what you can do with it.

I should get it about a month or so before the trip, so I'll have plenty of time =)

The S90 is very good. It has a very fast lens and is just under the $400 mark, according to Amazon. As a matter of fact, you can get a package from Beach Camera that includes a bag, memory card, mini tripod, and a cleaning kit for the same $400. Sounds like a deal-breaker for me
