Hey honey, I am going to need a fast wide angle lens, like the Tokina 11-16mm in order to take some excellent photos of [fill in the blank] on delivery day.

I guarantee if you say "wide angle" and "pregnant" in the same sentence, you won't be getting any camera gear for a while. Or anything else for that matter.;)

I'd get a fast prime for a delivery, not an ultra-wide.

I would say get a sigma 28 1.8. You will enjoy the low light for indoors.

It's #3 for us. 9 months pregnant with our #2 she was only 135lbs @ 5' 7"...I can get away with the "wide" comments because she is anything but.

I was itching to buy a G10 as a take anywhere camera.. In June our daughter presented us with our first grandchild.. In a moment of madness I just went out and bought it.. I came home and said to my wife,"Here you go Honey, I bought you this so you can take nice photos of Jake". She was estatic..

Just go out and buy your lens, then take beautiful photos of your newborn,,your wife will love you for it..

Congrats on your good news..

I say go get it...its an excellent lens. However you probably wont be using it to take pictures of your new child. Unless your trying to include the baby in a wide angle landscape.

Actually, a UWA is probably overkill.... while the delivery room could be small, you don't want the doctor trying to delivery your baby with your camera going off next to his head... That said, I say go for the 28mm or 24mm primes to get the speed in about the right FL.
