I ordered one from Adorama. It should be here today :). Can't wait to give it a whirl against my 50 1.4.

A 50mm f/2 for $1300? Better be able to do more than take pictures!

I thought about this one for a very long time. I'm *very* curious about the results.

The 50L is only about $300 more, which at that price point isn't a big deal. That $300 will get you AF and almost a full stop of light.

I'm not the most well-versed in Zeiss-speak, but Makro-Planar means it will do extreme close-up correct?

but when you compare

50mm f/1.4 Planar - $660 (which is over $100 in canon mount vs the others, except for the ZF.2 which is $725! WTF??)
50mm f/2 Makro-Planar - $1283

Why is the f/2 version twice the price? Can anyone explain that for me?

This lens is kinda like looking at a Ferrari and then asking "how much does that cost". It's one of those things where, if you have to ask about it, then it's not for you. The people who are buying this lens could care less about that aperture value. They are buying it for one thing, IQ. It boils down to those who care about IQ and sharp, flat field of view across the whole frame. If all you care about is aperture then well....all I can say is "...move along, there's nothing to see here".

Oh that's good because the regular Planar design has funky Bokeh in my opinion.

Thank you for replying gas

Well it's certainly not going to pour you a pint or keep the rain off your head but if it's anything like the 35/2 it should be spectacular ... oh wait it's a makro never mind ... I'm sure it's spectacular but the 35/2 is not a makro lens
