I presently use Elements 6 to do all my photo processing. I'm thinking about upgrading to LR but have a few questions before I make the purchase - they are:

  • Does LR have a clone function and it so is it as easy to use as the one in Elements?
  • While editing a photo in LR can I move the photo to Elements, continue to edit the photo, and return the photo to LR for final editing?
  • Is there anything LR can't do that Elements can?
  • Anybody here make the transition to LR from Elements and if so are you happy with the transition?
  • On a scale from 1 to 10 (1 = difficult, 10 = easy) difficult/easy is LR to learn?
Thanks in advance for your responses.

Answers to your questions: -

  • Does LR have a clone function and it so is it as easy to use as the one in Elements? I personally don't like it for major cloning, but ok for minor spot removal

  • While editing a photo in LR can I move the photo to Elements, continue to edit the photo, and return the photo to LR for final editing? Yes

  • Is there anything LR can't do that Elements can? Anything that involves layers. Elements is a pixel editor.

  • Anybody here make the transition to LR from Elements and if so are you happy with the transition? Yes, I have, but I kept Elements and now upgraded to CS3 - different tools for different jobs.

  • On a scale from 1 to 10 (1 = difficult, 10 = easy) difficult/easy is LR to learn?I don't think you should base the answer to this question as one of reasons why you should or should not get LR as everyone has different abilities. However, saying that I found LR pretty much intuitive as all your adjustments are grouped all together in more or less the proper workflow order. I'd give it a 6 or 7 out of 10 for easiness.
