I got three 8GB Extreme III compact flash from Adorama a couple of weeks back. None of the cards work in my new 7d. I keep getting a "cannot access card. reinsert/format the card" warning. Other cards, including a 4gb Ultra II work fine.

What's odd is that the 8gb cards work fine on my PC, even if the 7d does not recognize them. IF I format the cards on my PC, they work for a while on the 7d, then go bad again (no read/write).

I called Canon first, they said they will look at the camera and fix it if there are any issues. Gave me the shipping address and everything.

Then I called SanDisk and the tech support since my other CF cards work just fine in the 7d. The SandDisk tech was certain that the cards were bad. He said the way that a card reader and a camera access the cards was different. That didn't make much sense to me, but I figure he knows more about the cards than I do.

(Adorama is closed until Monday, which happens to be the 14th day after purchase (they have a 14 day return policy).)

Anyone else have similar issues? I will try calling Adorama on Monday for a return.

The batch of the cards is: BI090813904B

Some people had problems with a batch of Extreme IV's from Adorama. Here is a thread about it: https://photography-on-the.net …t=sandisk+bad+lot+adorama

This is the first I have heard about Extreme III issues.

I'd send 'em back to SanDisk rather than Adorama. From what I hear they're replacing the defective cards with the newer (and faster) Extreme cards.

I had the same thing happen to some 8GB cards. I called Sandisk and they replaced them very quickly.

I read about the IVs which made me think it could certainly be a card issue. Thanks for your help all, I'll ship the cards back to SanDisk and get a replacement.

Until then, I have to put up with the Ultra II (slow compared to the IIIs -- can't imagine what the IVs must be like :)

Do you happen to remember the batch number?

In your position I would dispense with the middle-man and return them directly to Sandisk, as they are offering!

Okay, now my Ultra II is also having the same problem. The only card that works is an ancient 2GB Kingston 50x.

I am leaning more towards a bad 7d than bad memory cards. I'll have to work it out with Canon repair.

(Bad time for this to happen with Christmas just 5 days away!)

sounds ominous... this is the second thread I've read today about odd card issues..

see: https://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=798698

some fairly old canon camera stuff, canon lenses, Manfrotto "thingy", and an M5, also an M6 that has had a 720nm filter bolted onto the sensor:

Argh, not so convinced after reading http://lightingmods.blogspot.com …d-markii-video-locks.html (external link)

Think I'll have to try a fast non-SanDisk card.

No, I sure don't. It was about 9 months ago, so, it probably is not the same batch.
