Speedlight any good for portraits?

he didn't say you miss the whole world, he said you're locking away AN entire different world. In other words, another one. The two can live together quite nicely, and even compliment each other at times.

Get a speedlight and learn to use it, you'll love it.

It's also another tool in your toolbox ;)

I do not think that I miss the entire world by not using flash, but yes, not always I get the natural light I need.

Having the flash means that you can shoot in conditions that would completely rule out "natural light".

And flash does not have to look like flash. There are many ways of shooting to avoid the flashed look - bouncing, diffusers, bounce cards etc.

Then you can go to off camera flash which gives a lot more creativity.
