Hi guys,

I almost finished my battery and, so I went to charge it.

However, as I charged it, it went to full straight away.

Does anybody know why it happens? Is it leaked?

It is either the battery or the charger.... Have you another battery to compare? Are you sure all the connections between battery and charger work properly - one is a"sensor".

keep in mind the average lithium batteries have a 500 cycle life. That' completely charge and completely discharged, when the cycle life is depleted, the cell no longer holds a charge (thus your battery charger went straight to full) . Also keep in mind, cycle life is linear, meaning if you use the battery by only half it's capacity and recharge it, and you do this continuosly, you multiply and increase your cycles; in this case your 500 is now 1000 cycles.

BTW, if you need rechargeable replacement BP-511A, the Lenmar is a good replacement for $13

I have a similar problem...it goes to full within thirty minutes rather than 90 minutes. I have SterlingTek batteries, the BP-511A, and they're a year old. Both have been charged 32 times each.

Your battery is probably toast. If you're still within Canon's 1-year warranty, you can send it back and get another one. If not, there are plenty of good options out there. Sterlingtek batteries are popular and the price is right. (about $12)

I had two Sterlingtek's that did this after a 18 months. Lithium batteries don't last very long, so I just recycled them and bought two more. If it's under one year, Sterlingtek will replace them for free.

Well, I'm over the warranty a long time ago, coz I bought this 40D
second from a friend.

The weird thing is, after posting this, I tried charging again and it went right. It was charging
for like an hour or so and charged it all the way to full.

It's kinda weird. Perhaps the electrical connection wasn't good enough.

Thanks guys anyway, I'm gonna keep that battery brand in mind. Lenmar and sterlingtek.
