Well, if this is true, it's a pretty fair effort.
If it's not, it's a damn good story...and you should'nt let the facts get in the way of a good story.

Isn't that a quote from Rush Limbaugh or Sean Hannity?

Thank you. bw!

Dunno for certain - some say J Frank Dobie, some say former British PM Jim Callaghan.

Ooops...Thought it may have been.
Did a search and couldn't find it.

I s'pose it's plausible...but not very possible.

One time I had a PowerShot A540 that would give me a lens error. I threw it as hard as I can off my second-floor balcony towards a concrete floor.

This fixed the problem. The camera works fine.

Wouldn't be kinda hard to take a photo with the camera strapped to the top of your head?

Why don't you keep your backhanded political comments to yourself - and off the photography forum.

My vote would be O Riely. But none of those three are able to tell the truth. And I intend "tell" to be defined as both "to speak" as well as "to discern". Not only do they lie to their followers, they have gotten so used to lying that they couldn't tell the truth from a lie if they had to.

And as to the camera, it could happen. Maybe it landed on some soft loam or such. I am wondering what he was triggering the shutter with? Can you keep your hand on a cable release at terminal velocity?

I sincerely doubt any electronic equipment would survive this never mind a camera with relatively fragile parts. I am an advocate for not babying a camera but this is going too far (if real!)

I think it's a fake...in most countries, you have to hold a
(b licence ) skydiving licence which allows you to take photographs or video....no reputable company would allow you to simply strap a camera to your helmet. There are specific mounts for this...and if it was correctly mounted there's not a chance that it would fall off. It has to withstand a freefall of at least 120 mph. One of the posters wondered how you 'd take pics with it strapped to your head....you have a rigged cable release that you bite down on to snap a pic.

Heh - yes, I did... You firmly established the biggest pundits on Right as liars, and through through the process of implication (intended or not), you have cast aspersions on every single Republican in the world, stating clearly that All Republicans Lie!!

:)

Okay, okay, obviously I exagerrated for humor there, but that's the kind of silly arguments people get in, when it comes to politics. You've alrady had one response jumping on your bandwagon claiming O'Reilly lies about everything.

I'm not even saying you're right or wrong, just that it doesn't belong in this forum, isn't there an off-topic forum for this?

The problem is that people who throw out such aspersions expect everyone agrees with them. What they have a hard time figuring out is that people who engage in selling their opinions are quite frank about the difference between fact and opinion and which they provide. Then we have Keith Olbermann, who does the same thing, only from the other side and never admits to anything--his statements are given as facts, when they are still opinion, and I have heard him bend and break the truth without cracking a smile. Now, lets talk camera toughness.

I had an XTi that took two very hard whacks against concrete--not just dropped, but swung down with increasing force and velocity due to the nature of my flailing wildly to regain my balance. Both camera and lens continued to work without a hitch. The only scratches were on the Kirk Enterprises QR plate which was fitted to the bottom of the camera.

I have no problem with the idea of a camera coming loose from a helmet and falling to earth and continuing to work. The image shows grass on it, I believe. A Ft. Bragg skydiver survived a similar fall by landing on a newly sodded lawn over loamy soil. Broke nearly every bone in his body, but survived. If either had landed on concrete from that height it would be a different story.

To answer one comment, even professionally made skydiving equipment, including camera mounts, fail now and then--it's a risky business.

Canons to the left, Canons to the right,
We hold our L glass toward the light,
Digitizing in a snap reflective glory
That will forever tell our imaged story.

Thats why I call fake on this story - I seriously doubt that a camera, however well made, could take that sort of impact without breaking any parts. The deceleration alone from approx 50mph (http://www.calctool.org/CALC/eng/aerospace/terminal (external link) with 2.5kg, 100 square inches, Cd of 1.00 in air ) would make me suspect breakages if not complete failure.
