Mike, have you printed those beautiful shots of your grands and given them to their parents?

I haven't, but it's a good idea... thanks for the suggestion!

Sorry. No stories. It's a family forum.

I WILL say, however, that even with locked gates, there are ways to get in there at night.

Having just celebrated the feast of the Holy Innocents, I am compelled to continue my belief in your innocence... the stories you could tell would only be rumors that you heard about. From friends of friends of friends.

I'm actually spending some time tonight processing pictures in my "Needs to be processed" collection in LR. Thought I would share a few as they get done.

More fluorescence, and a bit of a surprise:

This is a quartz geode. I bought it at a science museum. I liked the way the crystals looked:

IMAGE: http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2487/4230075280_a58c3f4456_o.jpg

This is the geode under black light:

Yes, the crystals do fluoresce, but here's the surprise....

... the geode after the black light is removed:
IMAGE: http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2654/4230075170_2c8ee3a9a2_o.jpg

It only lasts a second, and is somewhat faint. You can see it with your eye, but only just.

The crystals in the geode are also phosphorescent! This was quite a neat find!

What do you think is causing the lighting after the blacklight is turned off? I know that crystals are supposed to absorb energy when placed in direct sunlight. I wonder if it is a release of light or just light continuing to reflect off of all the different facets.

Nice.. Try the black light on some new clothing. Many times you can still see the tailoring marks some factories put in there.

Thanks all. I think it is an immature dragon fly. It was less than 1/2" long from tip to tail.

We also stopped off yesterday to see the local herd of big horn sheep. I ended up sitting on the grass up the hill from where they were grazing. The were walking and grazing at the same time at a leisurely pace. But before I knew it they had walked right around me as the herd of about 25 split to go around me. At one point they were within about 8' and I was completely surrounded. I felt mostly safe because they didn't even look at me as they eat. The only part that bothered me was when several of them stopped eating and stared me down. Definitely not a place I want to put myself in again.
